Dr. Andy Knight received his Bachelor’s and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering at the University of Cambridge, England. He was an academic at the University of Newcastle, Australia for many years before leaving in 1999 to work as an academician.
He is currently a professor at the University of Calgary, holding the Transmission Electric Industry Chair. He researches and teaches the integration of energy into electric grids through system analysis and experimental validation, electro mechanical energy conversion, and associated power electronics.
He has been involved in PV installation projects in Calgary Alberta, Canada. He has been a member of technical committees responsible for supporting the long sustainability of the Alberta Electric System. As the Transmission Electric Industry Chair, his team is responsible to address challenges facing the Alberta Interconnected Electrical System, focusing on the steps required to enable increased penetration of renewable in Alberta.
